Societies: MIDAS (Mini-Bus Qualification) - Cambridge

This is the MIDAS qualification needed to give your society access to our Union Mini Bus Free of Charge (fuel only). There are only 4 places on each test, tests are free to committee members, but not guaranteed.

Registration will open on the 4th of Septmeber!

Being able to drive the mini-bus for your society looks great in your portfolio, as it demonstrates fantastic social responsibility. It can also greatly benefit your society - and its free! This is an all day event 9am- 4pm!

To sign up, all you need to do is meet the below requirements and take a £20 cash deposit (returned to you on the day of the test) and your driving licence to Peter Taylor House Reception - registrations will be open soon!

To be eligible to go on the Minibus course you must initially meet the following criteria:

  • I am a Committee member 
  • I am over 21 years of age
  • Hold a full UK driving license 
  • Have two years driving experience minimum (You will have to produce your driver’s license (paper and card) to book a test)

 

 

What does the assessment involve? – It is split into two areas, theory training and assessment and a driving assessment. Drivers have to successfully complete and pass both sections of the course.

MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme, organised by the Community Transport Association U.K. (CTA) which promotes a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. 

MiDAS is applicable to any organisation operating or using minibuses. The Students' Union has a system to asses drivers for the Staff and Students' of the university. The course covers the following areas:

  • Legal Responsibilities of a Minibus Driver
  • Passenger Safety
  • Child Passenger Safety
  • Defensive Driving
  • Manual Handling Awareness
  • Health & Safety Awareness
  • Accident & Emergency Procedures
  • Personal Safety for Drivers

Drivers who successfully complete the MiDAS assessment and training programme will receive a nationally recognised certificate valid for four years, as well as the option of obtaining the comprehensive "MiDAS Driver's Handbook".
