MR GRANT ROSE

Manifesto – Disabled Rep

My name is Grant Rose and I am running for the Disabled Rep (Cambridge), in the coming Student Union elections. I am a second year student and currently studying politics. I have a physical disability, which means I require the use of a wheelchair in order to move around freely in day-to-day life.

As a young person with a disability, I believe that people’s needs should not hinder a person’s ability to live their life the way they want to.  This means, that as Disabled Rep, I will ensure that all spaces in the University are accessible and disabled friendly for all academic and non-academic activities.

If elected, I would work with the Student Union to ensure that all events hosted, or promoted by the SU and societies that are associated with the SU are fully accessible.

I would also work with the SU to produce a guide to Cambridge for students of all disabilities. This guide would focus on local social venues and outlets, describing accessibility and disabled friendly facilities.

I personally feel strongly about producing this guide, as I have felt the embarrassment and upset of going out with friends and being unable to enter the venue, through no fault of my own. This then resulted in a ruined night, as either I had to go home or my friends had to change their plans.

I feel both of these policies are important and urgently need, if they had been in place when I started university, my first year would have much more enjoyable.

These ideas are based on my experiences as a disabled student. As your Disabled Rep, I would hold meetings with other disabled students to discuss other issues relevant to them.

Finally,

Please Vote for Grant Rose as your new Disabled Rep
