VP ALSS Manifesto: By Harrison Forsyth

Let’s Build a Legacy!

Hello my name is Harrison Forsyth, and I am running for the role of Vice President, which will be leading Arts, Law, and Social Sciences.  I am running for this new and exciting position because I feel that this would be a great step towards building a strong future for everyone involved within the ALSS. I want to see these faculties become the very best, within the Anglia Ruskin campuses.

I would bring a positive and a never give up attitude to this electrifying new role, which will help build motivation, helping these studen'ts build their own success for the future.  Building a relationship with everyone will help us move forward together, to bring success in the next academic year and beyond.

I have experiences which I could use to benefit students, being an Ambassador for the Meningitis Research Foundation and a keen worker within the charity sector, these skills will come crucial to help lead us to success. I want to make sure that my skills help benefit the individuals I am leading, but I want to help develop my own skills through hard work, dedication and building a foundation with new and current students. Bringing our ideas to the table, to achieve a better student life for all involved.

I have previously been involved with the Anglia Ruskin Student Union, becoming President of the new Raising and Giving Society and helping promote the Union through my charity work. The Student Union and myself, have worked hard together for the last two and half year, and to be part of its future would help develop relationships with students, and by working together we can achieve amazing accomplishments. As stated, if we bring our skills forward and work together, the ALSS and Student Union will achieve great things in the next year, and hopefully move forward onto a better tomorrow. We work together, we succeed together. There is no I in Team!

If elected I will campaign on the Following things, to help improve our time together at Anglia Ruskin University:

1. Tackle mental health issues within the ALSS, but within the whole of the ARU

This issue is important because we all deserve to be heard, our thoughts and feelings need to be heard. Anglia Ruskin and the Student Union has great relationship with the charity Mind, and helping students who are going through hard times. I have been part of this drive to boost mental health stability, and seeking counselling through the ARU has bought a beneficial impact to my life and to my work. We need to spread the awareness of mental health and make sure that students are aware of their own mental stability, but looking out for each other – to help build on and work towards our success.

I will achieve this aim through more mental health awareness talks and getting involved further with charities, such as Mind. We all deserve the best, and if we work together to help one another through the bad times, we deserve to see everyone go through their best. Building our relationship with Mind and other fantastic charities who deal with mental health, we can work towards helping ourselves get through times of hardship. I will want to continue the effort we make by making student’s feel valued, by setting up more mental health workshops and coffee mornings, to let students talk out their feelings and frustrations. Talking is always the best way to feel better, and by working with the SU, the counselling team, and with charities, we can help each other through the darkest of times – and help each other move forward to a better tomorrow.

2. Working with the Raising and Giving Society and other great societies

This issue is important because societies are the backbone of our university life. We meet friends, learn new life skills, and get involved with campaigns which we feel strongly about. As the president of the Raising and Giving Society, I would like the ALSS to be fully committed on helping the society build on its foundations. We are currently a small group, which is looking to expand, looking to fundraise bigger and get involved with some great volunteering events. If I am elected into the Vice President Role I want to build better associations with RAG and also other fantastic societies who work tooth and nail to help others. Societies such as the LGBT, Disability, and Vegan will be guaranteed mine and the ALSS full support if elected, and we shall work together to share your message and stand united through campaigns and movements you wish to follow. I would also like to work with societies based in the ALSS, such as the Law, and Crime and Justice. Working together will help promote their intentions and get students involved with their work. We all need to be helping each other to achieve every bit of success needed to guarantee our movement forward as one of the best facilities within ARU.

I will achieve the aim by simply working with the amazing individuals who run these societies. We can form a new relationship, boost motivation and productivity to set up new campaigns, fundraising ideas, and working closer as a unit. We can help promote these societies which will help the growth, boosting their memberships and reputation. The sky is the limit, we can achieve this success together and help some great charity causes. We will also be  promoting some fantastic individuals who work hard to achieve their dream of running a successful society and becoming one of the best societies on campus; through promoting and equal opportunities.

3. Sharing success of ALSS students

As students, we all enjoy being rewarded for working hard and achieving our targets. As vice president, my aim is to simply work with students and help them grown, and work towards success on their path to their degree. We are a team, full of motivated and inspirational individuals whose success should be recognised. This issue is important because I believe this will not only benefit student productivity, but it will also boost our reputation as a faculty. We will stand to promote hard working students and help others to aim high, and reach their own potentials.

The aim is simple, we help share that success and reward students for outstanding achievements, in and outside university. From working on a masterpiece or to helping in our local community, these students should be rewarded. If I am elected, I will work my very best to promote hard working individuals, and reward them for their work and outstanding achievements. The reward maybe a voucher for a high street shop, to even a free drink down at the Academy. Promoting one’s success, will help keep a beneficial and positive attitude towards aiming for our goals, and never giving up on our dreams.

4. Building a Legacy

This issue is important because we all need to succeed and enjoy our time at University. If I lead the ALSS, we can create that legacy and work towards improving our current stability as a faculty, and work towards becoming one of the best on all campuses. We achieve success together, we share failure together, but we learn from our mistakes and pick ourselves and go forward, this will make us stronger. We are not individuals, we are one unit – we have to stick together to see the positive effects of our commitment.

I will achieve the aim through simply working with my peers and looking at what we can change, what needs to be improved to help our way of life at ARU. We can pitch ideas and offer support to help build new bridges and create new opportunities to promote not only our faculty, but our inspiring and hardworking students involved within this family. This legacy cannot be achieved without the backing of our students and staff. Without you, we cannot move forward to bigger and better things, which will help improve our reputation as a faculty.

Please make sure you remember to go out and vote for Harrison Forsyth. With your vote and support, I can work towards improving our university experience. From raising mental health awareness, helping to promote charities and causes that are close to all of us, but also rewarding students through hard work and dedication - we can stand tall together. A leader is only as strong as their followers, and I want to share that leadership with my peers. Doing this allows equal values to be accepted, and we in the ALSS family can achieve great things, working together to make sure that Arts, Law, and Social Sciences - is one of the best facilities at Anglia Ruskin University. Let’s build a legacy together, and never give up on our dreams!
