Nothing about us, without us.

I heard this saying when I first got into disability advocacy over a year ago, and it stuck. It is a mantra I aim to put into practice in my time as your disability rep, and it’s something I advocate for and will continue to do outside of the SU as well as within. As an autistic woman I know the feeling of being overlooked due to my disabilities and it is a feeling that I want to prevent any disabled members of the community from feeling within the union.

Nothing about us without us. To fulfill this promise, my goal is to build a community space where I can take the time to listen to any member of the community who wishes to be heard, and to uplift their voice. There, you can bring to me any concern or goal and we can work together to make sure that the needs of our community are listened to. The foundations of this will be on instagram @tieganleigharu , where my DMs will always be open. I aim to be a voice for the community, not for myself, and to always act in the best interest of our community.

Nothing about us without us, If you choose me as your disabled students representative, this will be the core value I will always operate from. It is time for our voices to be heard, and I would be honoured to be the one to advocate for our community. Voting Tiegan-Leigh is a vote for inclusivity, intersectional advocacy, accessibility and the uplifting of every disabled voice at ARU.
