"SOLIDARITY SEEKS OUT SUCCESS"

Hi, my name is Jessica Bush. I am a Second Year Student, studying for a BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Degree. Previously, I have also gained a year's experience in BSc Paramedic Science, including being a rep before transferring to Adult Nursing. This was a really positive experience for me, but my rationale behind my course transfer was that I felt I wanted a career involving caring for patients on a long-term basis. By nature, I am friendly, approachable, sociable and love to have a good time. But, let’s not forget we are here to get the best results to help us succeed in our future career choice and be happy. I am a good communicator/listener who thrives on mixing within the community, talking to my peers and enjoy making a difference. Strongly valuing our university experience, I am really passionate about ensuring that everybody feels inclusive and ultimately receives the best educational opportunities during their course.

In respect to experience, I have currently represented my colleagues as Course Representative for the past two years. It has been a privilege talking to students and supporting them through their university journey and to offer a ‘listening ear’ to voice student’s feedback at committee meetings and highlighting action for areas that need progress, including practice placement support. For instance, alongside a fellow representative, I have assisted students with their workload organisation by compiling a module checklist. Also, I have been involved in presentation speaking where I have helped to advance learning around clinical-related topics from module content.

I will also be supportive and offer guidance where there may be ongoing problems that may require a further course of action or adaptation for positive change. I am always happy to help. No matter how sensitive the issue, I can assure you that I will be supportive and proactive in resolving the problem. I will endeavour to liaise with members of the Students Union, Course Leader, Module Leader, Personal Tutors etc, providing you with direct support and relevant feedback.

My aim is to emphasise the importance of collaboration between all healthcare degrees and develop simulated teamwork activities, including arranging qualified clinical speakers with YOUR help. This means student-led involvement in regard to feedback of interest across the whole faculty. Ultimately, to benefit all individuals who are part of HEMS and heighten their university experience.

It would be a privilege to represent you all as HEMS Faculty Rep with any views, concerns or ideas that you would like to bring forward. I am determined, that with your input and as a team, we could mould our faculty to be the best it can be. In order that we can all be successful in our degree.

Working together as a team during our studies and in practice will help us achieve a greater framework for our common goal of 'positive achievements leading to excellent quality of care for our patients’. Adhering to how solidarity seeks out success and opens individuality and innovative thinking through collaborative partnership in all fields of healthcare.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto.
