Ganesh Gupta

My name is Ganesh and I am studying Business Management BSc (Honours) at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).  I want to run for the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Students' Rep at the Cambridge Campus because I want to make a measurable impact on our university, especially for BME students, generate higher levels of integration and leave a legacy behind for students after I graduate.

There are pertinent issues that I want to work on including:

·     Improving retention of BME students through increased integration in the first few weeks with a welcome pack that involves work based activities in the university, societies, events and getting to know your classes.

·     Understanding and closing the attainment gap that exists for BME students through initiatives such as a role model programme, blogging about student experience and advice prior to entering.

·     Enhancing the employability of BME students by encouraging applications to programmes that specifically encourage applications from BME students, and hosting events with Alumni to help grow networks for advice and support.

I am currently a BME Student Advocate at the Cambridge Campus, a senior intern within the Faculty of Business and Law, and a Student Ambassador for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and The Economist. In the past, I have also sat on the Student Advisory Board chaired by my faculty's Deputy Dean and Vice President for Business.
