About Me:

Hello! I am an PhD student here at Anglia Ruskin, working on railway space within literature of the 1860s and 70s, and I am running for AHSS Faculty Rep in the 2019 elections. I have been a member of the AHSS (Formally ALSS) faculty at ARU since 2013 when I started on my BA in English Literature, and I continued here for my MA too, giving me extensive experience of the university at undergraduate, postgraduate and now PGR levels. I love ARU, and am passionate about representing our faculty as well as playing an increasingly active role in the fantastic community at our university.

Previous Experience:

Over the previous year, I have been working as one of the two PGR reps for the AHSS faculty, so I have experience with representation, liaising and making positive changes. During my time as PGR rep, I strove to improve PGR spaces, refine the quality, frequency and availability of research training, and to improve the web resources available to PhD students - I am delighted to say that all of these changes will be coming into effect over the coming months. Whilst PGR rep, I have also been attending regular meetings with the Deputy Dean, as well as attending all Faculty Innovation meetings. I am now eager to expand this position; to build on my experience to make positive improvements for AHSS students at every level of their university experience.

If Elected I will:

  • Actively listen to and feedback your concerns to the appropriate people.
  • Campaign to improve the marketing and representation of AHSS - we are a fantastic, diverse and long-established faculty producing world-leading research, yet too often this isn't accurately conveyed.
  • Devote time to attend meetings across to stay informed of current changes and issues, and to represent your concerns
  • Increase communication of university events, especially for students who are not regularly on campus.
  • Work for increased promotion of our faculty events, and greater partnership with wider seminar series, groups and societies being held across Cambridge.
