If you're a student at Anglia Ruskin, you can stand to be a Part Time officer. It's voluntary, but gives you the chance to help the running of the Union. The diversity of positions means that you can really make the job your own, and it's brilliant experience if you want to run to be a Sabbatical Officer after you finish your course.
All part-time, elected Executive Officers shall:
- work to further the union's objects and purposes as defined in the union constitution
- help with the successful running of relevant campaigns and events including induction activities, and as directed by the Site Executive Committee
- be an active member of the Site Executive Committee
- carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the union's Health and Safety Policy
- carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the union's Equal Opportunities Policy
- carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the union's Staff/Student Protocol
- consider the development of the Union's facilities and services as an integral part of their role
- undertake other duties relevant to their positions as directed by the Executive Committee
- In addition to the general duties outlined above, these part-time officers will have additional responsibilities outlined below.
a) Represent the needs of students on the campus in relation to entertainments provision.
b) convene and chair the Entertainment's Forum.
a) represent the views and issues of members of all registered clubs and societies
b) help advise and train members of all registered clubs and societies in their effective organization
c) convene and chair the sports and Societies Forums as appropriate
d) work with Union Officers, staff and external organisations to promote sport, clubs and societies to all Anglia Ruskin students
a) Represent the views of students living in university halls and managed accommodation
b) Represent the views of students living in the private rented sector
c) Convene and chair the Halls and Accommodation Forum
a) Support the development and implementation of welfare campaigns
b) Support the site Student Experience Officer on welfare matters relating to the campus
c) Recruit and support the welfare volunteers team
d) Convene and chair the Welfare Forum
a) Convene and chair the communications forum (APEX Editorial) and work with the relevant Union staff and Officers in the organisation, production and distribution of Students' Union publications
b) Assist in communications, in all media, between the Union and students on the campus
c) Ensure that Students' Union publications do not contravene the Union's Equal Opportunities Policy
a) Convene and chair Union Council
b) To co-ordinate the agenda for meetings, with support of relevant staff.
c) To facilitate debate and encourage participation in union council
Optional additional part time officers.
The above positions are subject to annual review and ratification at Union Council.
Role Requirements
- Be a nursing or midwifery student
- Represent the needs of nursing and midwifery students to the Union and the University
- Raise any issues of concern for Nursing and Midwifery students to the Union
- Make links with local, regional and national bodies representing Nursing and Midwifery students
- Promote the Union and its services among Nursing and Midwifery students
- Be a student of the Faculty of Education
- Represent the needs of education students to the Union and the University
- Raise any issues of concern for education students to the Union
- Make links with local, regional and national bodies representing education students
- Promote the Union and its services among education students
- Have commenced their time of study after their 21st birthday
- Be responsible for organising a Mature Students' Forum and encouraging Mature Students to participate within it.
- Provide a perspective on the issues, which affect mature students to the Executive Committee, and ensure that this is recognised in all areas of the Union's work.
- Establish a number of projects relating to mature students' education, welfare and social needs at the beginning of the year, as agreed by the executive committee.
- Attend all training events relevant to the post.
- Be a Non UK student
- Monitor the Union's provision for International Students
- Take part in International Student Inductions organised by the university
- To ensure that the Union effectively addresses issues affecting International Students, and is sensitive to their beliefs and cultures
- Self define as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans
- Be an executive officer of the students' union and represent the needs and opinions of LGBT students to the executive
- Scrutinise both the union and college Equal Opportunities policies to ensure that they protect the rights of and promote the involvement of LGBT students
- Work with the Student Experience and relevant Officers to produce materials and resources to inform and educate all students about LGBT students' issues, particularly those surrounding
- Campaign on a local level against discrimination
work with the NUS LGBT Campaign and other organisations such as Trade Unions and relevant LGBT organisations
- Ensure that this union fully engages in the democratic processes of the NUS LGBT Campaign, for example, submitting motions and sending delegates to conference
- In co-operation with relevant officers run appropriate campaigns specific to LGB students.
- Convene and chair the union's LGBT forum
- Be a Part Time student as defined by the university rules and regulations
- Work with the Academic Affairs Officer set up a Part Time Students' forum
- Be a conduit for the issues affecting Part Time Students
- Be an Part Time Executive officer of the students' union and represent the needs and opinions of women students to the executive; represent the needs and opinions of women students to the college as necessary
- Convene and chair the union women's group
- Scrutinise both the union and college Equal Opportunities policies to protect the rights of and promote the involvement of women; ensure that the Equal Opportunities policy is properly implemented at all times
- Produce materials and resources to inform and educate all students about the nature of discrimination against women
- Work with the NUS Women's Campaign and other organisations such as Trade Unions and relevant women's organisations
- Ensure that this union fully engages in the democratic processes of the NUS Women's Campaign, for example, submitting motions and sending delegates to conference
- Run appropriate campaigns specific to women students.
