If you wish to survive this thing we call university then you are going to need to make friends with your fellow students. If you are nervous about talking to strangers just remember that they are in the same position as you in this strange new environment. Those flatmates and course mates are friends you have not made yet and the best way to start making friends is to give a genuine smile and introduce yourself you will be surprised how the words will just then start to flow.
It is very important to make sure you attend your course's registration day, as there you will receive information on what is on for the rest of the week. Your department will also undoubtedly offer a few events where you can get to know the people who are going to be your near constant companions for the next 3-4 years.
Your health should come first as university can be a very stressful place as well as being unfortunately an easy place for flues and colds to get around. Register with a local GP as soon as possible, you will need a urine sample so bear that in mind.
We put them on for YOU, what do you mean you don't want to go to them? Now putting this in perspective you may well not wish to go out 16 days in a row because lets face it you will then need 16 days to get over it which means your university life will start out somewhat badly. Just be sure to show your face and do your fair share of making friends with people who are just as eager to make friends as you are.
