DON’T TAKE A CHANCE - TAKE A TEST!
If you are under 25 years old and have ever been sexually active, there’s a 1 in 10 chance that you could have Chlamydia without even knowing it.
This Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) is known as the “silent infection” – 70% of women and 50% of men who have Chlamydia show no signs or symptoms at all.
If Chlamydia is not treated the infection can spread to other parts of the body and cause pain. It can even lead to infertility in both men and women. The risk is increased if you get infected again and again.
You can pick up your free, easy and confidential test from the Anglia Ruskin Students Union or the Advice Service. You can also go online and order one at
www.cambstakeatest.com
Once you have filled in your details on-line the Chlamydia Screening Programme will send you a test in the post. You can take the test yourself in the privacy of your own home and return it to us by post.
Men need to provide a urine sample and women need to do a self-taken-swab. We will get in touch with you within 2 weeks with your results. This can be a text direct to your mobile phone, an email, or letter. The choice is yours.
What if you have Chlamydia?
If you get a positive Chlamydia result you will be given free antibiotic tablets. It’s usually 4 tablets that you take all at once and within 7 days your infection should be gone.
What can you do to stop getting Chlamydia?
· using condoms every time you have sex can reduce the risk of getting or passing on Chlamydia and other STIs including HIV;
· every time you have a different sexual partner, get a Chlamydia test;
· if you have Chlamydia, take all the tablets you are given and do not have any sex (oral, vaginal, anal or sex toys) with partners until they have been treated too.
