Blog number two, and since the one I wrote a couple of weeks ago I feel much more settled in now. Since all our training and inductions have finished we have had more time to focus on campaigns and the year ahead. I have continued to really work hard on the planning and organisation of ‘HELP’ week which is a Welfare Week for students in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough and Fulbourn. It will be a week of events and information on Health, Education, Lifestyle and Personal issues. Provisionally ‘HELP’ week will start on 17th November which coincides with national anti-bullying week. Keep an eye out for more info over the coming weeks!
I have also…
· Attended NUS ‘Action through Advocacy’ training for four days in Leeds which was on how to run successful campaigns.
· Attended a meeting with the other sabbs and part-time officers to make plans for campaigns we think it would be good to run throughout this year and how we might gather students’ opinion on these issues.
· Attended meetings and working groups regarding the development of the Cambridge Campus.
· Joined Nick in giving pre-induction talks to the September nursing intake in Fulbourn and Chelmsford.
· Visited Peterborough and Fulbourn to get a feel for their campuses and the surrounding area and to investigate how we can best help and support students there.
· Continued to make Freshers week preparations. James and I are planning and putting together welfare packs for freshers fair.
· Continued to work on the ‘Give It A Go’ sessions for Cambridge. Although some events are still to be confirmed it looks like we have trampolining, karate, a trip to London, a trip to Thorpe Park, Life drawing and Ice Skating lined up.
· Attended ‘House Hunting’ events in association with the University Accommodation service which help students find houses for the next academic year.
· Attended a BUCS (British University and College Sport) regional meeting.
As before the above is just a taster of what I have been up to but if you want to know any more or you want to get involved in anything then feel free to get in contact! I have had lots of people ask me about setting up clubs or societies ready for the next academic year and if you are also interested in this then I would encourage you to get in touch.
29 days until Freshers!
