Two weeks of freshers madness ended with our opinion poll last week and I would like to thank everyone that took the time to vote and give their opinion as to what they think our priority campaign should be. To my personal surprise our motion to actively campaign against higher education funding came out on top. Perhaps that is because I presumed students where not as informed on the issue of top up fees, but then this is because for too long the Students’ Union has shyed away and reclused in
As I have said in previous blogs and my letter in the Students’ Union as a Union we have not spoke to as many students as we should have done, but as you have seen from the last week this has changed. We are actively talking to students and gathering opinion. This morning I spoke to 30 people I have not spoken to before and asked them their opinion on the issue of John Smith and the aspire card. I can assure all our students that we will not let this lie, our students at Anglia Ruskin deserve the choice whether to have their scholarship as cash or as what essentially is ‘book tokens’.
The coming weeks will be incredibly busy, we are organising a day of action to coincide with the National day of Action being organised by NUS. This is all part of making this our number one campaign for the year, at this moment I do not have precise time or place however, it will be on the 5th November and will more than likely be a mass demonstration in the centre of Cambridge.
