The past two weeks have been very meetings intense as we try and prepare for the new student intake in September. I hope everyone has been keeping in contact with the news on the bursary and scholarship issue. The good news for new students coming in September is that they will have choice for the three years they are here. They can choose either to have the cash option or they can choose to receive the ‘aspire’ card.
What the Students’ Union has managed to secure is a 6 monthly review of what the card offers. We will be ensuring that students who take up the card option will have as much choice as possible. The options will not be limited to the bookshop, a range of University and Students’ Union will be available to ensure students get full value for their card. Please contact me

Other than that preparations are being made for the new intake of students, fresher’s fairs being organised, the weekly evening events being prepared, moving in weekend staff being briefed. A lot of work goes on here at the Students’ Union even though every one else is on holiday. Personally I have been preparing all the induction talks that we will be giving and preparing some of the campaigns – if you are in halls watch out for the energy and recycling competitions!

• Meet with Steve Bennett to discuss role as governor plus any other SU issues
• Develop options for bookshop to place with the ‘aspire’ card system
• SUEI work – participation planning with team
Achievements for the weeks:
• All Meetings Attended
• Meeting with Mike Thorne and Co Re Bursaries
• Visited the Open University (Tue) – Discussing ways of communicating with distance learners
• Trustee adverts and emails to potential externals – have had one response and meeting him early September
• Policy on the Bursary situation – needs amending following new discussions
• Met Mark Norman to discuss environmental ideas – he seems keen for the comp and will be arranging a meeting with UAS to discuss further.
• Discussed open days with James Ringer and what they will do different to this year – email has gone out.
• Organised NUS in-house training 12th September in, Chelmsford starting at 10am
