As I said previously I had a lot of work to do on the Opinion Poll, well I did it and it was great fun! We got some fantastic results and more importantly you, as students, got the chance to tell us what you want us to do. As a result of the Opinion Poll Higher Education Funding is going to be our main priority for the year. We are going to be kicking it all off by joining in the National Day of Action on the 5th November against the increase in top up fees. We’re thinking about doing a demonstration, maybe in the form of a march…if you have any ideas feel free to e-mail me!

Just a little bit of useless information - I have also just cleared out my e-mails and I discovered that I received 549 e-mails in September.

As well as working on the opinion poll I have been working on the next edition of the Apex, designing publicity for our recycling and energy competition and I have even managed to put very nice page-turning PDFs of the Apex and Handbook on the website!

I am continuing to learn a lot from working as communications officer, I cannot think of a better job to go straight into as a graduate. The thing I have found the most valuable over the past few weeks is the time where the Sabbatical team go out and talk to students. We are learning so much about what you guys want from us and what we can work on to change to make your University experience better.

Tomorrow I have got my very first Faculty Board meeting. This is where I sit down, along with the Deans of the AIBS Faculty and student reps and we discuss what’s going on. Primarily I am there to make sure that the Student Rep raises any problems that students are having in their faculty and support them to make sure they are being listened to. This is a prime example of how we work to represent you. There are only about 3 of these meetings a year which means each one is very important, it’s the only contact time you have with the people in charge, with the support of myself to say what you really feel!

Over the next couple of weeks I will be continuing to go out and talk to people, ask you what you have on your mind. I will continue working on the Apex along with the team and we also have a lot to do to plan the Nation Day of Action.

Feel free to get in touch with any comments you have on anything, even if you generally just want a moan – usually it’s for a good reason.
