Sabbatical Officers
· Graduation ceremony venues – the SU gathered student opinion and lobbied the University, resulting in the venues remaining in Cambridge and Chelmsford
· 24 hour library access in Cambridge, also being trialed in Chelmsford for the academic year 2008/09
· National Student Forum – Kate Wicklow, Academic Affairs Officer, is Vice Chair 2007/2008 and 2008/09
· Sound Impact Bronze Award
Advice & Representation
· Advice Service casework – increase of 23% to the third quarter compared with the same period 2006/07
· Innovation – telephone and email advising policies in place so that overload casework can be shared cross campus and academic appeals workshops established to maximise the number of students assisted
· Student Written Submission for QAA IA in December 2007
· Student representation highlighted as an area of good practice in QAA Institutional Audit Report
· Two Student Representatives were nominated in this year’s NUS Student Rep of the Year Awards – one was runner up
· Promotion of student representation at Peterborough and Fulbourn
Bar & Ents
· Best Bar None Award – Started in 2000 by Greater Manchester Police and rolled out by NUS Services in 2003. Anglia Ruskin SU achieved BBN status in 2006/7 and then achieved regional winner (East Anglia and London) in 2007/8 beating the like of UEA, UEL and Essex. The award criteria is based upon responsible retailing of alcohol supporting the four pillars of the 2003 Licensing Act
· Summer Balls, started on in Chelmsford and sales in Cambridge:
· Cambridge achieved greater sales than last year with 975 people enjoying an event which saw Helmore converted into a giant Big Top. Cambridge put on their first ball ever, and with assistance from funds from the 150th Celebrations, managed to reach their target of 300 students attending with a great variety of international and mature students attending – feedback via facebook has been very positive.
· Chelmsford bar catering, with a new menu and subtle changes to the space we have seen a sharp increase in trade, with this catering facility scoring the highest in all the commercial areas satisfaction surveys.
Shops
· The shop in Cambridge now sells art supplies to students on various pathways and processes cash transactions for the supply of non-standard art materials. The arrangement was set up by David Hoyles and Liz Bryan the shop manager with the faculty providing
· Increase in university branded ‘hoodie’ sales, between campuses we have increased sales by 100% on last year, with the greater growth in Chelmsford
Student Activities
· Hosting of external tournaments - Fairtrade 5-a-side Tournament, East Region Tournament (BUSA), Varsity Day, Anglia Cup, SESSA Badminton tournament and SESSA cricket 6’s.
· Doubled team entries to BUSA – Six teams in 2006/07, Twelve teams in 2007/08.
· GIAG - Introduced the ‘Give it a Go’ sessions on the Cambridge campus alongside continuing to run them on the Chelmsford campus. GIAG had a mixed success, but the most popular sessions included Sign language in Cambridge (58 attendees over three weeks), 44 people visiting Bluewater from Chelmsford, 45 people visiting Greenwich and approximately 40 people attending cheese and wine evenings targeted at mature students.
